We will hear from seasoned volunteers on a bit of the local history of the area and everyone will receive a history booklet with more detailed information that they can study at their leisure to prepare before volunteering. Our lighthouse keepers keep Muskegon‘s maritime and lighthouse history alive by opening the Muskegon Pierhead Light tower to visitors from all over the world, between May and October.Īt these spring training meetings, community members, returning and new volunteers and any interested lighthouse enthusiasts will learn more about the duties of a lighthouse keeper. Volunteers are needed for a crucial portion of this plan- the opening of the lighthouse for tower tours in the 2018 season: 1-5 pm on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays in June, and Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in July and August. We plan to kickoff a capital campaign in 2018 to raise the necessary funds for complete restoration. Nearly 115 years of constant use and weathering the elements have left the Muskegon lights in need of critical repairs.
